On the West Coast, we are a District Health Board that is leading the way in many respects when it comes to innovations in rural health delivery in New Zealand. We're all about supportive working relationships in the practice and hospital; as well as enjoying the unique work relationships that stem from the diverse GP network on the West Coast. As we move to an Integrated Family Health model of care and with a new hospital due for completion on the West Coast next year, we need someone who is excited to be on that journey to improve as we are.
The reality for GP's in big centres means that you have too many patients, you're working too many hours and whilst there's great lifestyle opportunities out there, you're too busy to benefit from them. If you think that you and your family could benefit from a less frantic, urban existence then why not consider a change to a rural coastal community. Trade in your "same old, same old" for a lifestyle where challenging, varied and engaging work is balanced with an array of outdoor activities, such as: hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, horse trekking, hunting and fishing.
Reefton is located an hour drive from both Westport and Greymouth. As the GP here, you will support the aged care facility on site and manage routine GP appointments with the flexibility to assist with on call if you wish. You will be supported by a fantastic team of experienced Rural Nurse Specialists and Rural Hospital Specialists.
Whether you are looking for a long-term locum or a permanent position, we can offer flexible working arrangements that fit in with your lifestyle. For those who can commit to 12 months or more, we offer a competitive relocation package to assist with your move to the area. We also assist with the Medical Council application process.
On the West Coast of the South Island, you’ll rediscover a love of medicine, the beauty of a laid-back lifestyle, and... time. Here, after a day in which you get time to really get to know your patients, you'll have the time and the energy to get out and enjoy the world around you, and down here, it's a world like none other. If you are specialised in rural health previously or if you are an experienced GP wanting to expand into the area of rural health, then this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
