About us
The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners is the post-graduate training organisation for doctors wanting to specialise in general practice and rural hospital medicine. We support a membership of 5,500 GPs and rural hospital doctors, making us New Zealand’s largest medical college.
Our role is to advocate for equity, access, and sustainable healthcare for all people in Aotearoa New Zealand, which we do by setting and maintaining education and quality standards and supporting our members to provide skilled, equitable care to their patients. We believe fundamentally that regardless of who or where they are, every New Zealander should have access to their own GP.
The College’s 65 staff work in a light, bright central Wellington office that has sea views. We value health and support staff in this with wellness benefits, free fruit, social activities, and friendly colleagues.
Our commitment to equity and diversity
Ki te hunga e āta whakaaro ana ki te tuku i te pukapuka tono mō te tūranga nei. He Kāreti tēnei e kaingākau ana ki te reo me ngā tikanga Māori. Mehemea e manawanui ana koe ki te āwhina i te Kāreti ki te whakatutuki i te mana hauora taurite, tēnā koa tukua mai to tono.
We want our College team to reflect the diversity of Aotearoa New Zealand and the communities that our people serve and work in. We acknowledge the impacts of inequitable health systems and care on Māori as tangata whenua, and on other groups, and we are addressing these as part of our strategic direction. Applicants with additional skills in te reo and tikanga Māori and experience in working in Māori contexts are most welcome. As an employer we also seek to attract staff with diverse backgrounds, experiences, skills and perspectives, and welcome, value and respect their contributions to our work and workplace.
The role
As the Manager Policy, Advocacy, and Insights, you’ll be responsible for building and leading a team engaged in policy advice and development, successful member advocacy, relationship management with key external stakeholders, and generating insights and business intelligence to support critical decision making across the organisation.
This is an exciting opportunity to make your mark and continue to develop and implement best practice policy, advocacy, and insights on behalf of the College. 2021 brings with it lots of crunchy policy and advocacy issues, such as the Health and Disability System Review, COVID-19 vaccine rollout and the End-of-Life Choice Act becoming law, so there is plenty to get your teeth into as both a leader and advisor.
