Dr. Jo Blakey is an experienced GP practice owner, who works at Manly Medical Centre, Whangaparaoa on the Hibiscus Coast. She holds post graduate diplomas in Child Health, Obstetrics and Sports Medicine and has a passion for medical education, having been a RNZCGP GPEP2/3 medical educator since 2009.
Throughout her time in her medical educator role, she has been very involved in the fellowship progression of many registrars in the Auckland wide region. Every single practice visit, and every single interaction with her registrars and colleagues is an inspiring and diversified learning experience. Her colleagues and registrars continue to inspire her on a daily basis. Jo was the RNZCGP board apprentice 2015-2016, and sees this experience as being invaluable and giving her a great insight into the governance of the College. This in turn has inspired her to apply to serve as a RNZCGP board member. Jo brings with her years of experience at the “coalface”, years of educating and advocating for registrars, and years of serving the College. She has undertaken an Institute of Directors Training Course, and also serves on the Board of Trustees of her local Intermediate school.
Jo is married with three children whom she is very proud of. When not doing clinical work or College work, she spends most of her spare time running around with her children and dropping them off at their many sporting activities. Jo passionately embraces her family and work life, and sees advocating for GPs who are partners, parents and carers as a key skill. With an election later in the year, and ongoing workforce crises, Jo advocates for enabling GPs to have varied, and rewarding careers whilst remaining flexibility with their family and professional lives.
Outside of work, Jo enjoys movies, music and boot camp and walking her dog.
Jo looks forward to being able to serve you if she is elected on to the RNZCGP board.
