The College represents members’ views with government and health sector organisations on issues relating to general practice, the health system and the health of New Zealanders.
The Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) held two consultation periods on its draft document Strengthening recertification for vocationally-registered doctors in New Zealand.
2017 submission
The first consultation period was held between January and March 2017. The College made a response based on member feedback on 20 March 2017.
After our members' concerns were noted, MCNZ Chair Andrew Connolly penned an open letter to the profession to address some proposals covered in the document.
2018 submission
MCNZ opened a second consultation starting in September 2018. The College again gathered member feedback and made a submission, dated 11 November 2018.
In June 2019, MCNZ published A model for strengthened recertification requirements for vocationally-registered doctors practising in New Zealand. This document outlines the updated requirements that New Zealand GPs will need to meet in order to maintain their vocational registration.
