As you complete your GPEP journey, you’ll be guided and supported along the way by an expert team of teachers, advisors and support staff.
The delivery team
Teachers
Teachers/kaiako will work with you to develop a structured learning and professional development plan (PDP). A PDP outlines learning goals, activities, skills development, support available, and the resources required to achieve the planned outcomes.
Teachers/kaiako will also work with management in your practice to ensure you are prepared for, and engaged in the programme.
Medical educators
Medical educators/kaiako matua are regionally based and are responsible for delivering structured learning aligned to the curriculum. They also support teachers/ kaiako and provide additional pastoral support if you need someone to talk to about concerns or challenges.
They monitor your progress, receive reports from teachers/kaiako, observe you in practice, and review your formative activities.
Programme advisors
Your programme advisors are based at the College’s head office in Wellington. They provide administration support to you, your medical educator and your practice.
They are your first point of contact if you have queries regarding leave, claims and pastoral care.
Learning support for Māori registrars
The College provides pastoral and collegial support to Māori registrars throughout GPEP and Fellowship. If you identify as Māori, the following support will be available to you:
- Pou Whirinaki – this role is held by Maia Melbourne-Wilcox. She provides clinical and pastoral support to Maori GPEP year 1 registrars around New Zealand.
- Maori visiting medical educator - Māori GPEP year 2 and 3 registrars will be automatically assigned to a Māori visiting medical educator. You may opt out of this if you do not require this support
- Collegial support - The College’s Māori representative group is known as Te Akoranga a Māui. It is made up of College members who self-identity as Māori and have Māori whakapapa. Membership is optional.
- Tumuaki Māori - Te Oraiti is the College’s Tumuaki Māori. He provides Māori health leadership to the College, and in particular is the professional lead for the College’s Māori strategy.
