Registrar exam FAQs

What will happen if the alert level changes suddenly? How will we (the registrars) be updated?

The College will be guided by any changes made by the Government in relation to changes of the alert levels. The College will email registrars and do a follow-up phone call if the level change has any impact on the examinations. Messages will also be placed on the GPEP1 Te Ara and Facebook sites as well as the College website. This combination of channels will allow us to track and follow-up any registrar that has not responded to these forms of communication. We will ensure all registrars are contacted.

If the exams are postponed due to alert levels, how will the College mitigate the obvious disadvantage? When will the exams be postponed to?
Clinical exams will only be deferred if the Government moves to COVID levels three and four. The written exams will only be deferred if the Government declares a level four alert. Once the alert level is dropped by the Government, we will then make a decision and communicate this to all those involved with examinations and agree on a new examination date.  We need to wait for the Government to drop the levels before we can decide about a new exam date.
Is the College going to let those who fail resit due to the year we’ve had?
Under the Fellowship Pathway Regulations (Ref. 3.6.1(f)) candidates may have three attempts at successfully completing the clinical and/or written examination.
What happens if my flights are cancelled? Who do I contact?

You should call your Programme Advisor, who will then contact the person within the College responsible for organising the examinations.

Can I sit the exam virtually?

All summative College examinations are conducted face-to-face.

What happens if the South Island is locked down?

The College will be guided by any changes made by the Government in relation to changes of the alert levels. The College will email registrars and undertake a follow-up phone call if the level change has any impact on the exams. Messages will also be placed on the GPEP1 Te Ara and Facebook sites as well as the website. These channels will allow the College to track and follow-up any registrar that has not responded to these forms of communication. We will ensure all registrars are contacted.

What is the process if registrars have a mild respiratory illness at the time of the exam?

As per normal COVID-19 protocols they should not present with any COVID-19 symptoms or illness. Please contact your programme advisor for further direction.

Concern was raised about registrars being required to reuse their facemasks during the exam. Is this the case?

The College has purchased sufficient masks to enable registrars to replace their masks during the examination process.
