Call for Expressions of Interest – Clinical Lead DRHM

The Division of Rural Hospital Medicine (DRHM) of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP) invites applications for a contractor to join the Clinical Leader Team in a proportional 0.2 FTE capacity, overseeing the Fellowship Programme in the scope of Rural Hospital Medicine (FDRHMNZ). The contract will be renewable annually.

The Clinical Leader team‘s key tasks are to ensure delivery as well as quality assurance and continuing development of the programme. The clinical leader team provides primary educational support, guidance and leadership to registrars and is responsible for ensuring that the training programme delivers up to date content appropriate to Rural Generalist Medical Practice.

The Clinical Leaders act as conduit between the Division, the College Administration and Registrars as well as liaising with Rotational Supervisors and Educational Facilitators. Their role is to ensure the smooth running of the programme including recognition of and dealing with any problems registrars may encounter. They provide advice regarding the programme and suitability of training sites and work closely with the Division Coordinator and other College administrative staff.

Among key tasks, Clinical Leaders:

  • interview and select candidates for the programme
  • review applications for recognition of prior learning and make recommendations for credit recognition to the Board of Studies
  • monitor registrars’ progress and help with any difficulties they may experience
  • conduct hospital accreditation and reaccreditation for rural hospital medicine runs
  • participate in regular team meetings with the Division Coordinator to provide support and advice on registrars’ rural hospital runs
  • monitor and evaluate the delivery of the rural hospital medicine programme and provide reports to the DHRM Board of Studies.

Successful applicant will be:

  • Highly committed to generalist medical practice in rural and remote areas
  • Working a minimum of 0.2 FTE in either or both rural hospital or general Medical Practice
  • Hold the Division Fellowship and hold a current practicing certificate in the vocational scope of Rural Hospital Medicine in New Zealand
  • Is in Good Professional Standing with the MCNZ.
