Media liaison and strong writer sought

In the last year, The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners has gone from strength to strength, leveraging the media interest in COVID-19 and health to develop and build its reputation. We’re at the top of the media’s call list to speak on diverse health topics and when we do that, we represent 5,500 GPs across New Zealand (our members).

Owing to an internal promotion we’re looking for a savvy Senior Communications Advisor who can take charge of our media portfolio: both answering media enquiries and proactively looking for opportunities to promote the issues of the general practice profession. It’s swings and roundabouts with high and low periods of activity so you’ll also need to perform a wide range of other communications functions.

Great writing will be second nature to you, and you’ll use those skills for everything from the perfect email subject line for the year’s subscriptions out to members, to editing health-focused opinion editorials for our medical director. It goes without saying that you’ll be able to whip up crisp, focused media releases that draw attention, and that you’ll pitch in on other writing tasks big and small – like longform thought pieces, social media content, and member interviews that you develop into engaging stories. Some of your work will be technical, some will be human interest; we can promise variety and you’ll never be bored because we’ll give you the scope to run.

Our communications and events team are tight and you’ll be a valued member of it. You’ll also work closely with the CEO, President, Medical Director, staff, and other GPs so we’re looking for a professional person but one who is happy and diligent in their work too.

Applications will run through to 19th April 2021 but please note that if an ideal candidate is found during this time we will move forward with screening and interview sooner.

Please apply quickly and forward your CV and cover letter to - DHPconsultancy@outlook.com
