Primary Care is rapidly changing. The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners needs to continue to be proactive to support positive change within Primary Care in Aotearoa in order to improve patient outcomes. Five areas of importance for me include:

  • promoting the value of General Practice
  • addressing workforce sustainability
  • addressing health inequity
  • advocating for a funding model that reflects increasing complexity of patient care
  • adapting models of care beyond the 15 minute consult

My governance experience includes:

  • Deputy Chair Pegasus Health Charitable
  • Deputy Chair Pegasus Health Membership
  • Chair Pegasus Health Membership Committee
  • Chair Pegasus Health Board Composition Committee
  • Member GPNZ Primary Care Clinical Leaders Forum
  • Chartered Member of Institute of Directors
  • Past Director BPAC NZ
  • Past Director Pegasus Health Nursing Membership

I have extensive clinical leadership over the past 13 years for Pegasus Health. I firmly believe in using a collegial and collaborative approach to all mahi with a firm focus on Te Tiriti principles. I have a background in education and research.

In recent times we have seen recurrent natural disasters including cyclones, flooding, earthquakes, a volcanic eruption, snow, fire and a global pandemic (but as yet no locusts!). We need robust systems in place to adapt to rapid change. There have been many learnings in Canterbury that are being shared across the motu. We need to continue to work collectively to plan for future disruptions.

Now more than ever it is critical that we care for our own wellbeing as well as those of our colleagues and patients. As Clinical Leader for GP Support at Pegasus Health I have helped shaped a Pastoral Care programme that provides peer support to prevent/manage burnout in GPs and improve patient safety.

I am a GP at St Martins Medical Centre. I am an Otago University graduate, and Fellow of the RNZCGP. I am also married with two young adult children. In my spare time I love to paint, garden and enjoy nature.

I believe I have the clinical leadership and governance experience as well as the drive to be Director for the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners well into the future.

Ngā mihi
