CORNERSTONE® General Practice module pilot

The CORNERSTONE® General Practice pilot is coming to an end 1 October 2019. Thank you to practices who've participated, especially through the busy winter period and during a measles outbreak. We’ve collected over 600 pieces of feedback which will help us to finalise our new College Quality Standards.

We’ve created a pilot assessment process flowchart to help practices prepare for the assessment – if you have any questions, please email standards@rnzcgp.org.nz

Helpful feedback for the Quality team

When providing feedback on the draft CORNERSTONE® General Practice module, it would be helpful to consider:

  • Are there indicators or criteria that are unclear?
  • Is the required evidence easy to understand?
  • Are there any additional training needs that should be compulsory?
  • Does the guidance help you understand the criteria and required evidence?
  • Are there any additional references that would be helpful to include?
  • Are there indicators or criteria that would fit better in the Foundation Standard module, or the CORNERSTONE® Continuous Quality Improvement module?
  • Are there indicators or criteria you feel should be taken out?
The easiest way to provide feedback is to download the Draft General Practice module, add comments and suggestions to the document and send it to standards@rnzcgp.org.nz. Alternatively, you can email us your comments and suggestions.

General practice module pilot FAQs

I am currently Foundation Standard accredited. Can I get CORNERSTONE® accreditation by doing this pilot?

Yes you can but you will also need to complete the new Foundation Standard module and the CORNERSTONE® Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) module which will be sent out in June.

To achieve CORNERSTONE® accreditation, practices will need to be accredited against the Foundation Standard, the CORNERSTONE® CQI module and one other module of their choice – a practice chosen module. Initially, there will be three practice chosen modules to choose from: General Practice, Teaching Practice and Minor Surgery.

If I want to be CORNERSTONE® accredited, do I have to do the CORNERSTONE® General Practice module?

No you don’t, the CORNERSTONE® General Practice module is one of three available options for practices to choose as their practice chosen module. The other two options are Teaching Practice and Minor Surgery modules.

What sort of practices is the College looking for to pilot the CORNERSTONE® General Practice module?
The CORNERSTONE® General Practice module is one of three available options for practices to choose as their practice chosen module.

The other two options, the CORNERSTONE® Teaching Practice and Minor Surgery modules, are specialised, so we see the more generalist General Practice module being relevant to a broad range of practices.  Please see this flowchart for guidance on pilot eligibility.

Does my practice need to pay to pilot the CORNERSTONE® General Practice module?

No, there is no additional cost to participating in any of the pilots. Pilot practices will simply continue to pay their current contractual fee.

How will my practice upload evidence?

We will provide pilot practices a login for Smartsheet (essentially a sophisticated web-based version of Excel) where you can record and track process - you can also upload supporting documentation
