Professional Development Plan

In its revised model for recertification, MCNZ describes its expectations regarding professional development plans. You can read this part of MCNZ’s model here (pages 8 and 12).

MCNZ’s strengthened approach shines a brighter light on the need for GPs to plan their learning. The framework asks doctors to draw on a range of information to inform the:

“development and ongoing maintenance of a professional development plan (PDP).”

We think using a PDP throughout the year can be a good way to refocus your learning. GPs should note that evidence of a well-structured and maintained PDP forms the basis of a successful annual conversation – a new and compulsory component of MCNZ’s strengthened approach.

We recognise that a barrier to maintaining a quality PDP is the College’s online CPD record tool. The College is committed to supporting GPs to understand the value of planning their learning, and we intend to improve this tool in future.
