This year the College’s conference was held in Dunedin between 26 – 28 July 2019. More than 500 delegates from around the country were there to catch up with colleagues, pick up CPD points, and hear from speakers covering a wide range of topical issues.

The conference theme was Realising the potential in primary health care: technology, teamwork and equity. 

The Minister of Health Dr David Clark and Ministry of Health Director General Dr Ashley Bloomfield both presented, as did four outstanding keynote speakers: Prof Gregory Phillips (Griffith University School of Medicine), Dr Mobasher Butt (Babylon Health), Dr Marie Bismark (University of Melbourne’s Law and Public Health Group), and Ian Taylor (Animation Research Limited founder).

During the conference, the College held its Fellowship and Awards Ceremony to celebrate 174 doctors who have completed their vocational training in general practice or rural hospital achieving their Fellowship. We were particularly pleased to welcome 11 GPs who self-identified as Māori and four Pasifika GP as new Fellows. 

The College also accepted four Fellows (including one self-identified as Maori) into the College’s Division of Rural Hospital Medicine (DHRM), and two new dual Fellows (Fellows of the College and DRHM).

Special awards were also presented to a number of College members, and the winners of the Greg Judkins Prize for Reflective Poetry were announced.
