Step 1: check your eligibility
In order to apply for GPEP, there are criteria you need to meet. Read the eligibility criteria.
Step 2: prepare your application
You will need to submit a series of documents along with your application and prepare some answers. Find out what documents and preparation you'll need to do.
Step 3: complete your online application
Applications for the 2020 programme have now closed.
If you have any questions about your application, please contact Kerry Sarginson on 04 550 2818 or email her on GPEPapplications@rnzcgp.org.nz
Step 4: applications are reviewed
References are checked, and applicants selected for interviews. If you are eligible you will be invited to an interview. You will be notified of this by the end of April 2020.
Step 5: attend an interview
All applicants will be assessed against a rubric. This will mean that selection interviews will only be required for applicants who we require further information from.
The rest who meet our eligibility requirements and scored well against the rubric will be accepted on the programme without a selection interview but there will still be an interview with College staff and a Medical Educator from your preferred training region. As you would have been already accepted on the programme this interview will be more to enable us to ensure your training practice support your learning needs. This interview will be by phone and will not be face to face.
We hope that this process will help ease some of the pressure of interview performance anxiety as well as the financial difficulties of travelling to an interview. If you are asked to come to a selection interview that is out of your region there is also the potential that the interview will be carried out via zoom.
Step 6: letters of offer are sent
Letters of offer are sent to successful applicants by the end of June 2020. Unsuccessful applicants will also be notified at this time.
Step 7: practice placements are allocated
If you are accepted onto the programme and have chosen to be College employed, you will receive notification of the practice (or practices) you will be placed in during your first year. You will be notified of this by the end of August 2020.
If you are College employed you will undergo two placements. If you are practice-employed or self-funded, your placement will be managed by the agreement you have with your employer.
Step 8: start the programme
GPEP year 1 will begin in early December 2020, with your regional Learning Group orientation.
If you have any issues or questions during the application, please contact Kerry Sarginson on 04 550 2818 or email her on GPEPapplications@rnzcgp.org.nz
