Membership categories and fees

College members pay an annual membership fee.

Registrars (doctors completing their GPEP or Division of Rural Hospital Medicine training) also pay training fees for each year they are enrolled in training (invoiced separately).

The membership year runs from 1 April to 31 March. Please note that the fees noted below include GST and levies where appropriate (faculty levy ($80 or $40) and research and education levy $10) and are valid until 31 March 2026.

Fellows

A Fellow has been assessed under the College's Fellowship regulations and is vocationally registered in the scope of general practice or rural hospital medicine.

Fellows and Distinguished Fellows earning more than $60,000 per year (income from medical practice before tax)

This fee includes the faculty and research levy.

Fellows and Distinguished Fellows earning less than $60,000 per year (income from medical practice before tax)

$969.00

This fee includes the faculty and research levy.

Recertification programme on hold for 4-12 months

Member

A Member is enrolled in the College’s GPEP programme and has successfully passed the College’s examinations.

Members working more than 5/10ths in any field

$1,625.00

This fee includes the faculty and research levy.

Members working 5/10ths or less in any field

$817.00

This fee includes the faculty and research levy.

Vocational training programme on hold for 4-12 months*

$456.00

*This must be agreed by the College prior to the hold taking place and cannot be backdated.

Associate in Training (Registrars)

An Associate in Training is enrolled in the GPEP and/or rural hospital medicine programme but is yet to pass the College’s examinations.

Associates in Training working more than 5/10ths in any field

$1,625.00

This fee includes the faculty and research levy.

Associates in Training working 5/10ths or less in any field

$817.00

This fee includes the faculty and research levy.

Associate in Practice

An Associate in Practice is currently enrolled in the GPEP programme through the PST/VEAB pathway or rural hospital medicine programme. Or New Zealand registered doctors who are engaged in general practice, rural hospital medicine or other aligned scopes.

Associates in Practice working more than 5/10ths in any field

Associates in Practice working 5/10ths or less in any field

$817.00

Retired and non-active

Permanently retired or doctors temporarily not working for 12 months or more OR practicing less than two weeks a year, e.g. parental leave, volunteer service abroad, sabbatical

Overseas

Doctors absent from New Zealand for 12 months or more. For Fellows: The College’s CPD programme can be placed on hold while overseas between three months and three years.

Doctors not currently working in general practice or enrolled in CPD or other College programmes but who are employed in another aligned scope of practice

Division of Rural Hospital Medicine levy

A fee to be part of the Division of Rural Hospital Medicine. This fee is subject to an update.

Advanced Competency levy - cosmetic medicine

Doctors who have vocational registration in general practice and who have been accredited by the College as having an advanced competency in cosmetic medicine
