In February 2024, the Government introduced legislation to disestablish the Māori Health Authority Te Aka Whai Ora. A claim to the Waitangi Tribunal is being led by Lady Tureiti Moxon and the Head of a Māori Primary Health Organisation, Janice Kuka, on the grounds the Crown was in breach of Te Tiriti o Waitangi with the disestablishment of the authority.
