Assessor eligibility and requirements

Eligibility requirements for Foundation Standard new assessor training

Priority for acceptance will be given to individuals who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • more than 2 years’ experience working in a quality assurance and/ improvement environment as a GP, nurse or practice manager in a general practice and/or in a Primary Health Organisation (PHO) or
  • completed the RNZCGP Foundation Standard Facilitator training (practice or PHO) or
  • have previous experience in quality standard assessing and/or have other assessor qualifications such as the New Zealand Certificate in Assessment Practice (NZQA) or
  • reside in close proximity to rural and remote practice areas.

All applicants must have a working knowledge and application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, cultural safety and health equity in general practice.

Eligibility requirements for Foundation Standard assessor re-endorsement training

Priority for acceptance into the re-endorsement training will be given to individuals who meet all of the following criteria:

  • have assessed and submitted a minimum of two Foundation Standard v22 assessments within the two years of initial endorsement
  • have no active concerns/complaints under investigation as a College endorsed assessor
  • have no outstanding moderation issues/actions to complete
  • can commit to the requirements of maintaining RNZCGP endorsed assessor status during the next two-year period.

Requirements for maintaining the RNZCGP endorsed assessor status

Foundation Standard assessors must meet the following criteria to maintain their College endorsed assessor status for a 2-year period:

  • New Foundation Standard assessors
    • must engage with an already endorsed experienced Foundation Standard assessor for support and mentorship for their first two assessments

All endorsed assessors must:

  • Submit a Foundation Standard assessment within six months of being endorsed, and a minimum of one assessment every six months thereafter for the two-year period (minimum total of four assessments)
  • Submit the assessment within 4-6 weeks of the site assessment
  • Participate in moderation at least once a year and complete all moderation actions in a timely manner
  • Participate in any additional or ongoing training requirements as required by the College to maintain their endorsement
  • Comply with the RNZCGP Terms and Conditions for Quality Programmes Endorsed Assessors.
